Avy Kaufman Casting is seeking a young, musically-inclined, neurodiverse actress and/or actress with a disability for a feature film that will shoot in Vancouver, Canada in late January 2022. This project is a musical. Character description for MOLLY and storyline below:
MOLLY: Seeking a girl with a disability or who is neurodiverse. About 10 years old, she is the spirit of newborn Molly Moon; she is the most tenacious, determined person you will ever meet. A child with something mysterious and timeless about her, Molly travels through a fairy tale wilderness, struggling to find a pathway to her parents (symbolized by the Moon). Befriended by a variety of woodland animals, and obliged to deal with a dubious Knight, Molly sticks to her path, always moving forward, determined to reach the real world and her parents through the doorway of the moon. Sings, Molly is prominently featured singing in 3 of the songs.
ADDITIONAL PARAMETERS: We are looking for a young actress who can sing, from around 9-12 years old, who is neurodiverse or living with some type of disability to play MOLLY. The film will be shooting on rough terrain on location in the forests around Vancouver.
STORYLINE: An original musical, Molly and the Moon tells the story of Brian and Cate, first-time parents navigating their newborn daughter’s medical emergency. As Brian and Cate spend long days and nights in the neonatal unit, their story is interwoven with that of a mysterious little girl named Molly, who is on a quest through a strange and magical world to reach the moon and the voice singing her name. As these two disparate worlds intersect, we realize the simple goals connecting them: to get home and become a family.
